Shri Narendra Modi honored Dr. V. A . Shiva Ayyadurai, the inventor of email when he met Mr. Modi at his invitation to the Gujarat Bhavan in New Delhi on March 14, 2014. Dr. Shiva shared with him the story of how he came to invent the world’s first email system as a 14-year-old immigrant in New Jersey, USA.
Dr. Shiva spoke about CytoSolve and how CytoSolve is revolutionizing the process of modeling complex molecular pathways leading to a decrease in the time required to develop new medicines and drugs to fight modern diseases and how it is helpful in eliminating animal experimentation.
Shri Modi was particularly interested in Systems Health, an educational platform created by Dr. Shiva to bridge ancient systems of medicine like Ayurveda and Siddha with modern systems biology. Shri Modi said that he is keen to popularize ancient Indian systems of medicine and pledged his support to Systems Health.
Shri Modi said that he was proud to hear that it was an Indian who invented email and that India needed more icons like Dr V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai to serve as an inspiration for students and the next generation of Indians to strive towards innovation. He said that Indians have been traditionally innovative and wanted to rebuild that hunger for innovation in today’s youth. Shri Modi shared with him his plans for an innovation platform which he plans to launch in Gujarat and the rest of the country to foster and grow innovation. Dr. Shiva explained to Shri Modi about Innovation Corps, which has been instituted by him to help fund young student innovators and entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to the market.
Dr. Shiva also thanked Shri Modi for recognizing him as the inventor of email in an earlier speech that he had given when he visited Tamil Nadu.
