Systems Visualization of How Much of the Sun’s Energy Remains Unutilized

VA Shiva’s student Dmitri Megretski presents a Systems Visualization of how much of the sun’s energy is received by the earth and how much is actually used.

For the first problem set in the class, my student, Dmitri Megretski, thought “…  it would be cool to visualize how much of the sun’s energy is not utilized.”  He originally began with this rough systems drawing:

Then Dmitri did a fantastic job showing from a high-level macro viewpoint, spanning multiple spatial scales, how the sun’s energy disperse

Q.  Are you a meat eater or vegetarian?

A. Haha! I love bacon too much to give up meat entirely, but since I’ve completed the project, I’ve generally tried to avoid most red meats, and choose other protein options that are available when possible. Except tofu, I can’t do tofu.
