Abstract:

Precision medicine aims to move beyond the “one-size-fits-all-approach” by understanding complex biological mechanisms to predict which treatments will be most effective for the right person. This lecture focuses on recent developments in computational systems biology that will enable the realization of precision medicine. Recent successes, through multiple case studies, in the use of CytoSolve, a computational systems biology collaboratory, developed at M.I.T., which provides a scalable approach to mechanistic modeling of complex molecular mechanisms will be shared. Previous approaches, solely based on statistical techniques, have been unscalable in eliciting the complexity of biological mechanisms.
